During the past 30 years, people have witnessed tremendous changes in clothing.

     People born at the end of 1960s were wearing the clothes passed down by their parents in primary school. Parents bought cloth fabric with vouchers, green, blue and black were the three colors that were often seen in clothes. Girls could only own one decorated shirt and they loved olive green, simply because they saw soldiers wearing uniforms in this color.

     After the breeze of reform blowing through China in 1978, private ownership began to occur. People would sell colorful but cheaper clothes near state-owned shops, bringing more options to the public. The most impressive thing is that young people began to wear bell-bottom pants, demonstrating their pursuit of fashion.

     By the 1980s, state-owned stores were no longer "daughters of the emperors". People began to get used to bargaining and comparing prices. Planned economy disappeared. State-owned department stores began to invite private ownership to enter their shops. Denim jeans became popular as millions of young people bought jeans and dressed in cow-boy style.
