Focus of the year: web portals attracted thousands of netizens

Three websites which later had a great influence on the Chinese were created this year.

Lianzhong, www.ourgame.com, the largest game website, has attracted some 16 million registered users worldwide by the end of 2003.

Tencent, which developed the real-time messenger OICQ, boosted a total registration of 39 million users, among them, 15 million being active.

Many people fell in love with each other through OICQ.

In December, the acquisition of sinanet.comby snsnet.com gave birth to SINA.com, which later developed into the world's largest Chinese website.

The three portals attracted millions of users.
