On yet another of Beijing's many hot summer days, 3 friends and I head to a bus station not far from the Temple of Heaven, about to set off on one of what would become frequent daytrips to Beijing's countryside. Our intention is to visit Gushanzhai Village and try some bungee jumping… or maybe not! However, on reaching the bus stop we get talking to another passenger and she tells us that we will spend a few hours on the bus and will need to find somewhere to stay overnight in the village. The four of us unanimously decide to go somewhere we can visit in one day. However, despondent at not getting to go to the original village, Jonathan decides he would rather stay at home. Brent, Lindsay and I put our heads together to come up with another option. The three of us eventually decide to go to Cuandixia a 400 year old village over an hours drive from Pingguoyuan subway station in the west of Beijing.
