Wu Yi Holiday – Day 2
After yesterday's visit and a good night's rest we decide to go and enjoy some of the city's sights. Our first recommended spot is Quanyechang shopping street. A few minutes drive in a taxi and we arrive at an incredibly crowded Quanyechang shopping street – it's China, and I should be used to it by now, but I'm not. The area is a typical grid network of streets, each bustling with scores of tourists and shoppers. Something unusual that I notice when I look up is the difference in some of the shops façade. Although the many buildings are large block like structures, some with Chinese characteristics, there are quite a number of colonial style European buildings, all of which have a vast and varied style of advertising boards. Between the crowds of people we can make out a line of Chinese flags down the middle of the street. The flags are nice patriotic touches that make a good picture, however I don't need them to remind me I'm in China when I have ridiculously fast golf carts full of tourists almost hitting me that do just that… There are also some funny 'colonial Tianjin' themed sculptures on these streets. We pose for a couple of photos before I have to hide from the midday heat in an air conditioned shop. However, luck would have it the shop I go into is a traditional Chinese shoe shop and it seems more hot and crowded than the street outside. So we head back outside and it's at this point we decide to go to our next location; Gu Wenhua Jie – Culture Street.
