Emphasize economic development in his inaugural speech
U.S. President Barack Obama said in his inaugural speech that he will focus on the economy and education to consolidate the market economy of the United States, and all American people should join hands to deal with the challenges faced by the state.
The number of people taking part in the inauguration of Obama's second term of office has decreased by 100,000 compared with four years ago, which indirectly indicates that American people become more realistic about their expectations of the current government.
Compared with 2009 when Obama first entered and hosted the White House during the downturn of U.S. economy, the current U.S. economy is in a slow and steady recovery. However, Obama still faces a weak economy, high unemployment rate and looming fiscal crisis. Promoting economic recovery, increasing employment rate and readjusting public debts will be the largest challenge for Obama in his second term.
The development of China-U.S. relations drew public attention
The China-U.S. relationship is currently the world's most important bilateral relation. After Obama was reelected the President of the United States, Chinese President Hu Jintao said in a congratulatory telegram that the relations between China and the United States have made positive progress under the joint efforts of both sides in the past four years.
A sustained, healthy and stable China-U.S. relationship is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and conducive to the peace, stability and development of Asia-Pacific and even the world. China is willing to join hands with the United States to promote the establishment of China-U.S. cooperative partnership and benefit the two peoples and other peoples of the world.
A number of former U.S. politicians had said in interviews that they placed high hopes on the China-U.S. relations in Obama's second term of office.
Former United States National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski stressed that people must fully realize the importance of cooperation in the China-U.S. relations. The cooperative development of China and the United States will probably change the history in which the established and rising countries always conflict with each other.
