BEIRUT, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese leaders condemned Thursday the Israeli airstrike against a Syrian military research center, accusing the Jewish state of exploiting the current situation in Syria to carry out its "flagrant aggression."

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said in a statement that " Israel is exploiting the development in Syria to carry out its aggressive policies, indifferent to all the humanitarian and international treaties."

For his part, Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour strongly denounced the attack, describing it as a "flagrant aggression."

According to a statement released by the Syrian army, Israeli war jets sneaked off radars and hit a center for scientific research in a suburb of Syria's capital Damascus at dawn Wednesday.

Mansour called on the Arab countries to take a firm stance toward the Israeli attack and "confront it with all legal means.
