NAIROBI, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan police are interrogating two foreigners from West Africa and a Kenyan woman after being arrested with 14 kg of heroine worth 580,000 U.S. dollars.

Head of the CID's Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU) Kiprotich Said said the three persons were arrested in Runda residential estate in Nairobi on Thursday evening following a tip- off from members of the public.

"The police arrested two men from West Africa probably from Guinea and Cote d'Ivoire and a Kenyan lady with 14 kg of heroine worth 580,000 U.S. dollars. The officers raided the house in Runda following a tip-off from our sources," Said told Xinhua by telephone.

"According to the information we received, the drug was from Tanzania and was being repackaged in the house before being shipped out to Britain," the police chief said.

He said the government chemist will analyze the drugs first before the suspects can be arraigned in court next week to face charges of drug trafficking.

Early this month, the anti-narcotics police recovered 4 kg of heroine worth 115,000 dollars from a residential estate in Nairobi and arrested four people including two Nigerians. The police suspected Nigerians were supplying the drugs to the Kenyan women who in turn sold them to university students in the city.

The arrest came as the East African nation stepped up war against drug trafficking in the country. Last month, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) arrested a 25-year-old lady with about 5 kg of heroin.

The east African nation has been restructuring the anti- narcotics police unit which has helped the country improve its capability to arrest drug peddlers using Kenya as a transit hub.

Kenya recently signed a bilateral agreement with some Western nations that among others allows the countries to cooperate on sharing intelligence on drug tracking crime.
