Saudi Arabia launches campaign against trafficking of women

17:58, February 19, 2013

Saudi Arabia has launched a campaign against trafficking of women, mainly from Africa and Yemen, local Al Riyadh newspaper reported Tuesday.

The campaign has been launched by various government organizations, which warned the violators that their names and photos will be published if their involvement in such crimes is proven, the newspaper cited a source.

"Those females enter the country illegally so they don't go through medical checkups, increasing the risk of spreading serious diseases in the country," the source said, adding that some illegal elements forced those women to commit robberies or other crimes as the latter entered homes to beg and develop good relations with housewives.

The kingdom's southern neighbor Yemen announced months ago that the police foiled an attempt of smuggling a group of Arab women to Saudi Arabia.
