ANKARA, March 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 50 passengers on an intercity bus from Turkey's largest city Istanbul to the capital Ankara escaped a tragedy on Friday when their bus caught fire only four km from the Ankara bus station, local newspaper Today's Zaman reported on its website.
The report said the driver quickly got all passengers off the bus when the engine caught fire.
Ambulances and fire engines have been sent to the scene, as the bus was engulfed in flames, the report said, adding that due to the incident, the Istanbul-Ankara highway was closed for approximately one hour.
