NEW DELHI, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday filed his nomination papers to seek re-election to the Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) for another six-year term from the northeastern state of Assam.

The 80-year-old Prime Minister is a member of the Rajya Sabha from state capital Guwahati since 1991, after becoming the country 's Finance Minister. His current term ends on June 14, and the election to his seat is slated for May 30.

Singh is likely to win by a good margin as the state's ruling Congress party and its allies have 94 berths in the 126-member Assam Assembly.

Members of a state's Legislative Assembly vote in the elections to the Rajya Sabha. The members of Rajya Sabha sit for six-year terms, with one third of the members retiring every two years. Unlike the Lower House of Parliament (Lok Sabha), it is not subject to dissolution during general elections.
