TEHRAN, June 14 (Xinhua) -- In a joint statement issued by Iranian presidential candidates on the last hours of voting on Friday, they urged their supporters to abide by the law and avoid holding immature victory celebrations, state IRIB TV said.

According to some reports, a number of people have "spread rumors" about gatherings and holding victory celebrations, however, nobody should pay attention to these kinds of rumours, the statement was quoted as saying.

The candidates urged their supporters to avoid gatherings prior to the official announcement of final results by Iran's Interior Ministry.

On Friday, Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar advised the candidates to refrain from commenting on the results of the election before the final announcement is made by the ministry.

Any independent announcements by the candidates may cause " anxiety" among the people, said Mohammad-Najjar.

Iran's voting for presidential election was closed at 23:00 p.m. local time (1830 GMT) in Tehran and hours earlier in other parts of the country.

The final results will be announced 24 hours after the polls are closed, Press TV quoted Interior Ministry as saying.
