MiG-21 fighter crashes in northwest India, pilot dead

MUMBAI, July 15 (Xinhua) -- One MiG-21 fighter aircraft crashed in northwest Indian state of Rajasthan on Monday morning, and the pilot was killed on the spot.

The fighter-- Indian Air Force(IAF)'s MiG-21 Bison crashed in Uttarlai district of Rajasthan, when the pilot was trying to land. The pilot was killed in the crash.

Last month a MiG-21 Bison fighter of the IAF also crashed in Rajasthan.

The phaseout of the MiG-21 will begin in 2017 as confirmed by Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne. It is expected to be replaced by the Light Combat Aircraft (LAC) Tejas.
