An earthquake measuring 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale hit central Greece on Wednesday noon, according to the Euro Mediterranean Seismic Institute.

No injuries or material damage have been reported.

The Euro Mediterranean Seismic Institute traced the epicenter near the town of Amfiklia, some 120 kilometers north western of Athens. The depth was estimated at approximately 10 kilometers.

An official estimate by the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens National Observatory is expected to be issued later.

The U.S. Geological Survey, meanwhile, measured the earthquake at 5.1 degrees.

Tremor was felt across central Greece, including the Greek capital Athens, where witnesses said they felt building shaking for several seconds.

Greece is often rattled by earthquakes, but most cause no serious damages.
