WASHINGTON, March 10 -- The U.S. Navy said Monday it has dispatched one more Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to join the multinational search for a missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

The USS Kidd, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, will join the USS Pinckney in the search efforts of the missing Beijing-bound Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The USS Kidd brings its two MH-60R Seahawk helicopters designed for search and rescue, as well as anti-submarine warfare, anti- surface warfare, surveillance, communications relay, naval gunfire support and logistics support, the Navy said.

The USS Kidd, like the USS Pinckney, was conducting training and maritime security operations in international waters in the South China Sea before being sent to assist in the search efforts.

The U.S. Navy confirmed on Saturday that the USS Pinckney was diverted from a training mission and en route to aid in the search of the missing flight.

The Boeing 777 with 239 people aboard lost contact with the ground and disappeared early Saturday when it was flying to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
