NEW DELHI, March 12 -- India has begun working with Malaysia to search for a missing passenger plane of the Malaysian Airlines since Saturday, said the foreign ministry here Wednesday.

"Malaysia has yesterday sought India's assistance in locating the plane...We are appointing designated people to deal with the issue and also push forward the process of sharing information in this regard," spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Indian navy has already been participating in search and rescue operations for Malaysia Airlines MH Flight 370 at the Malacca Straits, said local media earlier.

India is reportedly going to extend the search in the Andaman Sea area east of the Bay of Bengal and west of Malaysia at the request of Kuala Lumpur.

The plane went missing Saturday morning and no trace of the jet has been found so far despite intensive searches by ships and aircraft of several countries.
