Over half month after KFC’s involvement in the “fast growing meat chicken” incident, Sam Su, the Chief Executive Officer of Yum! China Division released an open letter to apologize to the Chinese consumers.

Fast grown meat chicken has become a huge industry chain, and data show it accounts for about 50 percent of China’s broiler production. In northern China, including Shangdong, Henan and Liaoning, it even accounts for 70 percent to 80 percent of people’s consumption of chicken.

In general, the chickens on the restaurant tables and the chicken foods such as burgers, wings sold at snack bars are all fast grown of meat chicken.

There are two kinds of fast growing meat chicken in China. One is bred for about 35 to 40 days, relatively large and suitable for sales after splitting. Fried chicken wings and legs are all made of this kind of chicken. The other is bred for around 40 to 45 days and roasted chicken belong to this kind.

Actually, fried chicken and wings sold at all the fast food market are all from fast growing meat chicken, and no other chicken can replace of it, according to Hu Xinkai, analyst from SCI99.com.
