Women's tennis Tournament of Champions under way in Bulgaria

The draw for women's tennis Garanti Koza Tournament of Champions was held here Monday, a day before kicking off the competition also known as the Little Masters.

The draw indicates former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic of Serbia to play round robin against local star Tsvetana Pironkova, Samantha Stosur of Australia and Elena Vesnina of Russia in the "Sredets" group in Arena Armeec Sofia Hall from Tuesday to Friday.

Simona Halep of Romania, Alize Cornet of France, Russians Maria Kirilenko and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will face each other in the "Serdika" group.

The top two from each group qualify for the semifinals on Saturday and the final is slated on Sunday.

With a prize of 750,000 US dollars, the tournament, held for the second consecutive year in Sofia, is consisted of six highest-ranked players who have won at least one International Series title during the year and did not qualify for the WTA Championships, plus two wildcards.

The eight competitors in Sofia won 13 WTA singles titles in 2013 and earned more than six million dollars in prize money, the organizers said in a press release.

Ivanovic, who received a wild card along with Pironkova, has won two of the four finals in the history of the tournament, in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
