The end of London Olympic Games means that the Olympic Green has undergone a full Olympic circle since it accomplished its mission. In the perspective of the utilization of the Olympic facilities, Beijing has experience to share.

Covering an area of over 1,000 hectares, the Olympic Green, which extends to the south bank of Qinghe in the north, the North Fourth Mid Ring Road in the south, the Anli Road and East Beichen Road in the east and the Lincui and West Beichen Roads in the west, carries the Olympic dream of all Chinese people. What about the fates of such large stadiums as the Bird's Nest and Water Cube? Is the utilization rate of the Olympic Green satisfactory? To these questions, Tian Juqing, standing vice director with Beijing Olympic Green Administration Committee, said with pride, "The utilization model of these stadiums is worth of popularizing in the world!"

Large stadiums were fully used

The utilization of Olympic stadiums was always a worldwide problem. Can the huge stadiums, such as the high-cost Bird's Nest, Water Cube and China National Convention Center, solve the problem? Tian said that these huge stadiums locating in the Olympic Green were remolded according to different conditions and characteristics after the Beijing Olympic Games. Adjustments are conducted to meet the market demand, changes the embarrassing situation of leaving unused.

According to Tian, as the representative of the top-level stadiums of China, the Bird's Nest has already broken through the stage of getting profits by charging the tickets, and now it has become a place attracting the high-end events, brand performances and top commercial activities. In addition, the "Happy Snow and Ice Season" held in winter every year is also an interesting series in the Bird's Nest, attracting more ordinary citizens and tourists.

Retaining its function of welcoming the world-class competitions, the Water Cube has maximally opened to the public and tourists. The Asia's largest indoor water park and live performances can be seen there. During the World Sport for All Congress in 2011, all the delegates including the President of International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge expressed their praises on the post- Olympic utilization of the Water Cube. The China National Convention Center has become the leader of the convention and exhibition industry, winning a paper profit in the first year of operation, which had been considered impossible.

"All of these stadiums in the Olympic Green have been fully used according to their characteristics," Tian said.

Build Beijing into a city of international events

The "Third Summit Forum for the Development of Beijing Olympic Green" opens at the end of August. Tian said that the key of building Beijing into a distinctive world-class city is to become it into one gathering international events. It will be built into a demonstration area with international influence, integrating sports events, cultural performances, conferences, exhibition and festivals in the future.

"During the four years since the end of Beijing Olympic Games, the number of activities held in the Olympic Green increases year by year. All the stadiums have a good operating condition and the demonstration place gathering international events is taking shape." According to statistics, a total of 654 activities and 752 conventions and exhibitions had been held in the Olympic Green in 2011, doubling that of 2010 (the number of activities held in 2010 doubled than that of 2009). Between January and May of 2012, 475 activities were held there, over three times than the same period of 2011.
