The "2012 Confucius Institutes Joint Conference In Parts of Europe" was held on September 7 in the University of Vienna. More than 100 delegations from 22 countries, 44 Confucius Institutes, 8 partner schools and the National Office of Chinese Language Council International, attended the conference.
To date, 132 Confucius Institutes and over 500 Confucius Classrooms have been built in 33 European countries, with a 970,000 total enrollment, said Xu Lin, director of the Office of Chinese Language Council International and the Confucius Institutes Headquarters. Confucius Institutes have been a good way for China and the world to communicate and understand each other. Vice chairman of Austrian Federal Parliament Suzanne Kurtz referred in her address that the Confucius Institute at University of Vienna has become a successful story in Austria-China cooperation, and a platform built to promote cultural exchanges.
