As a significant part of the second "China Luan River Culture Festival", the "Luan River Cup" Chinese shadow puppet carving contest was recently held in Luan County, Hebei Province. 11 performing teams from Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi, Shanxi, Sichuan and Hebei have presented the first feast of artistic exchange for different schools of the art of shadow puppets since 1949. Luan County is named "the hometown of Chinese shadow puppet" by Chinese Folk Artists Association. The Jidong shadow puppet, originated there, has outstanding local characteristics and strong decorating styles. The carving process demands delicate skill, and is honored "magical and lightening" art.
