Red Beach stretches in golden autumn

Red Beach, the world's second-largest reed marsh, lies near the mouth of the Liaohe River near Panjin City in northeast China's Liaoning Province. The Read Beach is both a scenic area and a protected nature reserve.

This section of marshland is covered by type of salt tolerant grass called Seepweed. It starts to grow every April or May. The color of the plant is green at beginning, and gradually becomes redder. By September, the plant is a vivid red, covering the whole alkaline beach.

Apart from amazing appearance, Red Beach is also well known for its migratory bird population of more than 236 varieties of birds. Among them, there are over 30 kinds of birds under national first and second class protection, such as red-crowned cranes, black-mouth gulls, etc. Therefore, the red beach scenic area becomes a national nature protection area. Red Beach is popular with the birds because it is a stop over on their migratory route between East Asia and Australia.

It has been the gold tourist section of Liaohe area, because of its rich nature resources and beautiful nature spectacle.

The mornings of sunny September days are the best time to enjoy the spectacular views of the Red Beach. You may stand on the bridge extending onto the sea or paddle a boat to enjoy this 6,000-hectare- wide "red carpet."
