Macao's visitor arrivals down 0.2% year-on-year in September

Macao's visitor arrivals decreased slightly by 0.2 percent year-on-year to 2,161,566 in September 2012, according to figures released on Wednesday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Of all the arrivals in September, 50.1 percent spent only one day. And the average length of stay of visitors increased by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.0 day, with overnight and same-day visitors staying 1.9 days and 0.2 day respectively,the figures indicated.

Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 0.8 percent year-on-year to 1.25 million, 58. 1 percent of the total, of which 500,395 traveling to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, up by 11.4 percent year-on-year.

Visitors from South Korea (32,585) increased by 22.1 percent, while those from Taiwan (97,163) and Japan (35,296) registered decreases of 3.8 percent and 0.9 percent respectively.

Visitor arrivals totaled 7,286,971 in the third quarter of 2012, down by 1.7 percent year-on-year. In the first nine months of 2012, visitor arrivals totaled 20,864,685 and the rate of increase narrowed to 1.0 percent year-on-year.
