Wang Yuanyuan founded Beijing Dance Theater in 2008, while choreographing for the dance performance of the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games.

The timetable posted in the theater is filled with performances and rehearsals, highlighted with blue and orange markers. After a tour in Netherlands and Belgium from Feb 2 to Feb 11, BDT dancers are going to the Dance Festival held in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and then another show in Denmark.

The troupe's ballet drama, "Stirred from a Dream", adapted from a 414-year-old Chinese masterpiece opera "Peony Pavilion", first stirred up appreciation among European audience in 2007. In three years, they kicked off their tour, "Haze", in Netherlands and Belgium. Looking back all the fundraising, contacting, brainstorming, and rehearsing work in these three years, Wang said, "it's not easy for us to have today's progress."

Wang Yuanyuan became a dancer since 10 when she learned ballet in Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy. After her graduation from California Institute of the Arts, she once worked as choreographer of the National Ballet of China and the Royal Danish Ballet. As the artistic director and founder of Beijing Dance Theater, Wang emphasized two things. One is to introduce the modern dance to Chinese audience so that they can better appreciate the essence of modern dance; the other thing is to introduce Chinese dance works to the audience in other countries, so that they can better know the current development of the art in China.
