THE HAGUE, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added new cultural elements onto its list for protection during its seventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is scheduled to close on Friday.
After a three-day evaluation of about 60 candidacies for inscription, the committee has placed four elements on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, 27 on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and two for the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices.
Here are the key facts of the newly inscribed elements in the year of 2012:
Four List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding:
Ala-kiyiz and Shyrdak, art of Kyrgyz traditional felt carpets in Kyrgyzstan;
Bigwala, gourd trumpet music and dance of the Busoga Kingdom in Uganda;
Earthenware pottery-making skills in Botswana's Kgatleng District in Botswana;
Noken multifunctional knotted or woven bag, handcraft of the people of Papua in Indonesia.
Twenty-seven Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity:
Al 'azi, elegy, processional march and poetry in Oman;
Al-Taghrooda, traditional Bedouin chanted poetry in the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman;
Arirang, lyrical folk song in the Republic of Korea;
Buddhist chanting of Ladakh, recitation of sacred Buddhist texts in the trans-Himalayan Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir, in India;
Cherry festival in Sefrou in Morocco;
Craftsmanship and performance art of the Tar, a long-necked string musical instrument in Azerbaijan;
Craftsmanship of Horezu ceramics in Romania;
Spectacular images of erupting volcanoes
