German couple's decade of charity training for special kids

"Bach's Bakery" is located in the Xiangchun Lane of Changsha. The little bakery with exquisite decoration is well-known in nearby areas for its 41-year-old foreign owner and deaf-mute employees here.

The owner Uwe Brutzer and his wife Dorothee Brutzer, who came from Stuttgart of Germany, have lived in Changsha for ten years. For the love of Chinese culture, they chose Wu Zhengrong and Du Xuehui as their Chinese name respectively.

By chance, the couple learned about that some hearing impaired children in impoverished areas of China had speech problems due to missed diagnosis. Uwe and Dorothee joined in a German charity organization to offer language training program for deaf-mute children.

They shuttled back and forth among rehabilitation training centers around the Hunan Province. According to Dorothee, more than 80 children have benefited from the charity program. "We go to each rehabilitation training center at least two times a semester", Dorothee Brutzer said, "Some of them are remote and very small." "There are only nine students in a rehabilitation training center of Chenzhou City."

To help more deaf-mutes grasp certain skills to earn their living, the German couple set up the "Bach's Bakery" in 2011, offering training opportunities for deaf-mutes to make cakes and bread. "They are quick learners", Uwe Brutzer said, "I hope they can work here if they want."
