Fan Yongping, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) doctor, has provided some tips for avoiding possible problems caused by napping in cars.
First, napping in a car may cause neck injuries. When people nap in a car, they usually lower or tilt their heads sideways. When the car turns or brakes suddenly, their necks may be easily injured. As for those who suffer from cervical spondylosis, the illness will get worse in such situations.
Expert's advice: people should keep their seat belts fastened and lean their heads back against the headrest in order to reduce neck pain. People who have problems with their necks should buy a neck pillow, or make a pillow by themselves by adding a mixture of certain traditional Chinese medicine to a 3-inch-wide and 8-inch-long cloth bag. It will have better effect if heated. The TCM neck pillow can disperse cold, smooth veins, kill pain, and reduce dullness and fatigue. If it is a long-distance ride, people should take some chewing gum or haw rolls in order to relieve tiredness and prevent such symptoms as tinnitus, motion sickness, and nausea.
