Pychological drama, biggest winner at 2013 Asian Film Awards

Lou Ye’s psychological drama ’Mystery’ is the biggest winner at the 2013 Asian Film Awards, scoring three top honors -- Best Film, Best Screenwriter, and Best Newcomer.(CNTV)

In Hong Kong, the 7th annual Asian Film Awards has just announced the winner's list. Chinese director Lou Ye has taken the most prizes this year, while "Lost in Thailand" has won the award for Top-Grossing Asian Film.

Lou Ye’s psychological drama “Mystery” is the biggest winner at the 2013 Asian Film Awards, scoring three top honors -- Best Film, Best Screenwriter, and Best Newcomer.

The Best director award was handed to Japan’s Takeshi Kitano for his work on the crime thriller Outrage Beyond. Veteran Filipino stars Eddie Garcia and Nora Aunor claimed the prizes for leading actor and actress.

Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh was given the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award for her career achievements.

"Lost in Thailand" by Chinese director Xu Zheng won the 2012 Top-Grossing Asian Film Award. The film has earned more than 990 million yuan at the box office, making it one of the most successful movies in Chinese film-making history. It has certainly shaken up the industry here, where big budget historical epics and martial arts films dominate.

Xu Zheng, Director, "Lost in Thailand", said, "Along with the increase of film theatres and movie fans in China, we are seeing new possibilities in the film market. I think that is much more important than the success of this film alone."

The Asian Film Awards attract a medley of international film professionals and actors. The event is part of the Hong Kong International Film Festival, which runs until April 2nd.
