Recently, a tomb suspected of belonging to Emperor Yang of Sui was discovered in Hanjiang district of Yangzhou. "Deceased Emperor Yang of Sui epitaph", "The Daye 11th year" was engraved on the unearthed epitaph, which is in line with the historical records.

According to archaeologists' analysis, the small size of the tomb of Emperor Yang of Sui is related with the cause of his death and several relocations. According to the historical materials, when the emperor toured in Yangzhou, his guards started a mutiny, recommended the great commander-Yuwen Huaji as the leader, and hanged the emperor. According to another record, the tomb of Emperor Yang had been relocated for several times. In 622 A.D., Emperor Gaozu of Tang dynasty ordered to move Emperor Yang’s tombs to Leitang. And in 648 A.D., after the death of Emperor Yang’s, emperor Taizong ordered to deliver her bones to Jiangdu and buried together with Emperor Yang.
