Peking Opera lovers will have a rare chance to see three full-length classics over three days, "The Legend of White Snake," "Wu Zixu" and "The Red Haired Galloping Horse."

They will be staged by the Beijing Peking Opera Troupe from April 26 to 28 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

The program by 29 young artists concludes the center's monthlong festival of traditional operas.

The operas are often staged in excerpts and the full-length performances will present the original flavor of Peking Opera, according to Li Enjie, director of the troupe.

Most of the performers are in their 20s and have distinct performance styles. It's a challenge for performers who are required to have physical strength and superb singing and martial arts skills.

"The Legend of White Snake" is a story of love between a benevolent white snake sorceress in human form, Bai Suzhen, and a young scholar Xu Xian, who has no idea she is immortal. Bai Suzhen is depicted by different performance schools in different scenes.

"Wu Zixu" is about the loyal ancient official Wu Zixu, who is forced to commit suicide after he is accused of treason and fomenting rebellion.

"The Red Haired Galloping Horse" is a Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) romance between Wang Baochuan, daughter of a prime minister, and Xue Pinggui, a poor man.

The troupe plans a world tour this year and in December plans another global tour of performances in memory of the Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, who specialized in women's roles. His classics will be presented.
