BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chen Changzhi was re-elected chairman of the China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA), one of China's eight non-communist political parties, on Thursday.

Chen was elected during the CNDCA's 10th national congress, which concluded on the same day.

The national congress also elected its new central committee, which is made up of 51 members. It also examined a work report by the CNDCA's ninth central committee and passed a new constitution.

While addressing the closing session, Chen called on all CNDCA members to learn and implement the spirit of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress, improve their work style and make greater contributions to economic and social development.

Chen said the CNDCA will shoulder its responsibilities regarding political consultation by bringing its extensive business connections into full play and improving its decision-making capabilities.

Chen also serves as vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, vice president of the Chinese Association for International Understanding, vice president of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification and chairman of the China Siyuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.

Chen joined the CNDCA in 1985 and was promoted to vice chairman of the CNDCA central committee in 2002 before being elected chairman in 2007.

The CNDCA was founded by patriotic industrialists, businessmen and intellectuals in southwest China's Chongqing municipality on Dec. 16, 1945.

China's eight democratic parties are the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, the China Democratic League, the China National Democratic Construction Association, the China Association for Promoting Democracy, the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, the China Zhi Gong Party, the Jiu San Society and the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.
