12th NPC Standing Committee to hold first meeting

BEIJING, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The newly-elected chairman and vice chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) held their first meeting on Monday afternoon.

At the meeting, it was decided that the first meeting of the 12th NPC Standing Committee would convene on Tuesday.

Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the meeting.

Stressing the meeting of the chairman and vice chairpersons as a key mechanism for handling the regular work of the NPC Standing Committee, Zhang urged the attendees to stick to the guidelines of the Communist Party of China, and maintain a people-oriented, law-abiding work style.

According to the recommended agenda, Tuesday's meeting will include the appointment of deputy secretaries-general of the NPC Standing Committee as well as other personnel appointments and removals in the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court and other organs.

Zhang will also speak at Tuesday's meeting.
