BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Top legislator Zhang Dejiang on Saturday met with members of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong, stressing the policy of "one country, two systems" and the development of Hong Kong's economy.

Zhang, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, told the visiting delegation, led by Peter Lam Kin-ngok, that the "one country, two systems" policy which is globally acknowledged, will continue to be unswervingly implemented by the central government, so will the basic law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

"The central government will completely support HKSAR's economic development, effectively improve people's livelihoods, progressively improve democracy, and inclusively promote harmony," said Zhang, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

"Developing the economy is Hong Kong's current priority as the global economic situation is complicated," he said, adding that Hong Kong should be mindful of potential dangers and seize the opportunity to create new advantages.

Zhang encouraged the alliance to adhere to "loving China, loving Hong Kong," absolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, stick to the alliance's purpose, give full play to its strengths and actively support the SAR government and the chief executive in exercising government power as mandated by law.
