BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- New measures are needed to promote China's cultural reform, senior Chinese leader Liu Yunshan said Saturday.

While researching a cultural industrial base in Beijing, Liu said, "There is no 'perfect tense' regarding 'reform,' and it's always a word only with 'progressive tense'."

Liu, a Standing Committee member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visited a number of companies and discussed with the staff the integration of culture and technologies, and cultural business innovation.

It is imperative to further advance ongoing cultural reform as culture provides strong spiritual support and a cohesive force for the realization of the Chinese dream, Liu said at a meeting after the visit.

Liu said the fundamental aim of reform is to solve problems existing in cultural development.

He urged relevant authorities to enhance the overall management of cultural development and boost the sector's competitiveness by transforming state-owned cultural units into market-oriented enterprises.

He also asked local governments to accelerate the establishment of a public cultural service system that benefits both the urban and rural people.
