BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The new leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) was elected on Thursday as the league concluded a four-day national congress.

Qin Yizhi, 48, a master's degree holder, was elected first secretary of the Secretariat of the 17th Central Committee of the CYLC at the second session of the committee's first plenum.

He had been vice-chairman of the Tibet autonomous regional government before being posted as first secretary of the Secretariat of the CYLC Central Committee in March this year.

Also at Thursday's session, He Junke, Luo Mei, Wang Hongyan, Zhou Changkui, Xu Xiao and Fu Zhenbang were elected members of the Secretariat of the CYLC's 17th Central Committee.

Members of the 17th Central Committee of the CYLC were elected at a plenary meeting of the league's national congress on Wednesday, a day ahead of the congress concluding.

Founded in 1922, the CYLC is a mass youth organization under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and currently has 89 million members nationwide.

More than 1,500 CYLC delegates from across the country attended the five-yearly national congress in Beijing.

According to a report of the 16th CYLC Central Committee that was approved Thursday by the congress, the league will lead its members to strive for China's prosperity, modernization and the realization of the "Chinese dream" -- the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The congress also adopted a revision of the CYLC Constitution that incorporated the Scientific Outlook on Development into the league's action guide.
