A symposium was held here on Monday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of late general Yang Yong, also a former member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Yang, who was born in 1913 and died in 1983, also served as deputy secretary-general of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and deputy chief of the General Staff of the China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).

During the meeting, CMC vice chairman Fan Changlong recalled Yang's life and commended his loyalty to the Party, rich military experience, hardworking spirit and selflessness.

Fan urged officers and soldiers to inherit the fine traditions of the Party and the PLA, and continue to contribute to safeguarding the country's sovereignty, security and interests for development.

Liu Yunshan, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, met with Yang's relatives and also attended the symposium.
