While going out patrolling with the No.2 Company of a frontier defense regiment under the Guangxi Military Command (MC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in early June, the reporters discovered that the equipment the officers and men carrying was so different from what it used to be. Over a dozen of new equipment, including the Beidou handsets, flat-panel information terminals, multifunctional scouting detectors, wireless audio and video transmission terminals, video cameras and so on, has become the new carrying equipment of patrol for officers and men.

Half an hour before the departure, the Beidou handset of Mo Zaitao, the company commander, received the weather forecast information within the defense zone for the day from the regiment's meteorology and navigation station. "The temperature within the defense zone today is between 26℃ and 34 ℃, southeast wind of light air to light breeze, overcast during the daytime and showers at night."

Reporters also noticed that the patrolling element had to test the technical function of the information-based equipment prior to departure. The duty room had also to make sure that the signal is clear before the departure. As explained by Zhou Liping, the regiment commander, testing the communication status of the system has been an important link of the patrol preparation.

When the patrolling element reached a boundary tablet, it immediately used the flat-panel information terminal in hand to shoot the boundary tablet from multiple angles and sent the video and image data it had taken back to the combat duty room in real time. Company Commander Mo told the reporters that through this set of equipment, the combat duty office under the provincial military command thousand kilometers away could synchronically judge and deal with the border situation with the patrolling element in different places, greatly reducing the handling time of border situation.
