GLD deploys logistics support for quake-fighting and disaster-relief

Following the occurrence of the earthquake in Yiliang of southwest China's Yunnan province, Liao Xilong, member of Central Military Commission (CMC) and director of the General Logistics Department (GLD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), made timely instructions requiring GLD leading organs and troop units to firmly implement a series of directions and requirements made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the State Council, the CMC and President Hu Jintao and provide strong logistics support for the people in the quake-hit area as well as the disaster-relief troops.

Liu Yuan, political commissar of the GLD of the PLA, hosted the logistics support task deployment meeting to support local quake fighting and disaster relief. The meeting called for well-organized support of food, drinking water, fuel supply, health and disease prevention, traffic and transportation, camping and others for the disaster relief troops.

According to the briefing made by the leader of the GLD Headquarter, after the earthquake occurred, the GLD was prompt in setting up emergency working group and issued urgent instructions to provide logistics support for the earthquake fighting and disaster relief. Meanwhile, the GLD coordinated the Eastern Airlines to carry 38 people from the Earthquake Fighting and Disaster Relief Commanding Group under the Yunnan Provincial Military Command (PMC) and the Kunming General Hospital in a plane from the Kunming Airport to the Zhaotong Airport in Yunnan province at 01:20 on September 8.
