The first "Military barrack open day" of Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province, was successfully held on September 15, 2012. Thousands of Wuhan residents and students from colleges and universities stepped into a command post of the air force under the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to get close contact with the air force weaponry and equipment and the training life of air force officers and men there. This is also the first time for the air force ground defense troops to open to the public.
Activities on the open day include military training subject show, combat operation show and show of weaponry systems such as antiaircraft guns, guided missiles and radars, and housekeeping display.
September 15 of 2012 marks the 12th National Defense Education Day of China. The first opening of the air force ground defense troops to the public aims to offer the residents a close view of the new achievements made during the troop units' scientific development and to enhance the national defense awareness of the people, according to Kang Zizhong, political commissar of the command post.
