The East China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) organized its multiple arms including warships, aviation force and coastal defense troops for an actual-troop drill in a certain sea area in mid-September, 2012. Dozens of combat groups successfully carried out new sea-battle subjects such as the sea-air joint precision strike in complex electromagnetic environment.
The first drill subject is "air-control operation of the aviation force with support of remote intelligence". A formation composed of 4 new-type fighters quickly searched out targets under the guidance of information from the early warning aircraft as well as advanced airborne equipment, and successfully launched air-to-air guided missiles to intercept the attacking guided missiles from the "enemy".
During this multi-arm actual-troop and live-ammunition drill, no targets were preset throughout the entire process, no positions were reported, and no interference methods and types were provided.
The drill highlighted the joint strike and coordinated defense of the multi-arms of coastal defense force, surface force and aviation force, and made a number of breakthroughs in terms of multi-arm joint operation command, performance check on new-type weaponry and equipment, the probe and innovation of new tactics and training methods. The drill has enhanced troop's long-range precision-strike capability in complex electromagnetic environment.
