
The officers and men of the 13th Chinese peacekeeping force to Liberia were awarded the United Nations Medals of Peace on October 10, 2012, local time, at the camp of the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment in Zwedru in southeast Liberia.
Karin Landgren, special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Liberia, delivered a speech at the medal-granting ceremony. She pointed out that the Chinese peacekeepers had played a very important role in various operations in the mission areas, and "with their strong will and dedication, they have made outstanding contributions to the development of Liberia, which have changed the lives of the Liberian people."
The 13th Chinese peacekeeping force to Liberia, totaling 558 people, is composed of a transportation detachment, an engineer detachment and a medical detachment. They are from a group army under the Beijing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Bethune International Peace Hospital of the PLA respectively.
