
A unit under the Beijing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) held a commendation ceremony on September 24, 2012, at which, Fu Xiaoming, Zhang Leilei and Ning Cuncan, three soldiers of the uinit, were awarded the medals of the First-Class Merit citations to honor their excellent performance in the "Golden Eagle 2012" International Special Forces Sniper Competition held in Kazakhstan from July 14 to 23 involving 8 countries including China, the United States and Russia. The three soldiers and Han Chao, a deputy battalion commander, topped 14 of the 17 competition subjects.
In order to forge an excellent sniper team, the Beijing MAC assembled all its special force snipers for concentration training from the beginning of 2012. The snipers completed the intensive training on 23 basic subjects as well as 17 international competition subjects.
They voluntarily upgraded the difficulty levels by increasing the pendulum shooting distance from 100 meters to 450 meters and adjusting the command shooting distance from 400 meters to 600-1,000 meters. Military skill competitions were also held and the four "gun masters" were eventually singled out after five rounds of strict tests and eliminations.
