First press briefing on anti-quake and relief work after Lushan earthquake held

Chengdu, April 22, (ChinaMil) -- The Information Office of the Sichuan Provincial Government held the first press briefing on the anti-quake and relief work after the Lushan earthquake, which happened on April 20, at 22:00 on April 21, 2013 in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan province.

Leaders from the Anti-Earthquake and Disaster Relief Joint Command under the Chengdu Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) gave a briefing on the troop units' anti-earthquake and disaster-relief work.

As of 20:00 on April 21, the PLA, the Chinese People's Armed Police Force (APF) and the militia as well as reserve force had dispatched troops totaling over 18,000, 66 sorties of 28 helicopters and 796 vehicles and machines. Up to now, they have searched and rescued 2,507 people, set up 1,200-odd tents, helped to relocate 24,000-plus people, transferred 1,600-odd people and 800-plus tons of materials by air and road, and unblocked and maintained 120-kilometer-odd road.

It is learnt that organized by the Anti-Earthquake and Disaster Relief Joint Command under the Chengdu MAC of the PLA, the press briefing focused on anti-earthquake and disaster-relief work carried out by various taskforces under the Joint Command in the past two days and the priorities of the following work.

Leaders from various organs under the Joint Command, the air force under the Chengdu MAC of the PLA and the Sichuan Contingent of the Chinese APF answered reporters' questions at the press briefing.
