Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon hold drill to brace for emergencies

BEIJING, May 9, (ChinaMil) --The 11th Chinese peacekeeping engineer battalion to Lebanon stationed in the Lebanon-Israel border areas held a comprehensive drill on May 8 to examine and improve the peacekeepers' capability of making quick response to and coping with emergencies.

The drill was carried out against simulated background that the Chinese peacekeeping engineer battalion was mistakenly bombed in an air raid and that the life and security of the Chinese peacekeeping officers and men was threatened by the nearby armed conflicts.

During the drill, the Chinese peacekeepers also came cross 15 complex situations including the militants' attacking at the gate of the barracks, mass riot, militants' armed assault, being intercepted on the way of fulfilling missions and the peacekeepers were detained by militants.

Recently, the Israeli warplanes frequently invaded Lebanese airspace and launched air strikes against Syria, which made the situations along the border of Lebanon and Israel even more complex and volatile, and the insecurity factors for the UN peacekeeping force stationed in Lebanon suddenly increased. The purpose for the Chinese peacekeeping engineer battalion to carry out the actual-troop drill is to get well prepared to cope with various kinds of unexpected incidents.
