BEIJING, June 13 (ChinaMil) --The 54th Combined Corps under the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) launched a new round of military quality assessment of the responsible officers of the battalions and companies in late May.

During this round of assessment, the rate of excellent results increased by 15 percent and 50-odd persons/times broke the training records of the combined corps.

Rong Guiqing, commander of the 54th Combined Corps, told PLA Daily that the training results of a company or a battalion were closely related to the levels of military skills of their responsible officers.

The assessment implemented percentile system for each assessment subject and the table of ranking was made according to the total points every participants got. Wang Bingsen, commander of the chemical defense battalion under a division, ranked low in the first round of assessment given at the beginning of the year. He studied diligently and trained hard under pressure, and finally obtained excellent results in this new round of assessment. "Poor assessment results will have an immediate impact on the commander's prestige among his men," said Wang Bingsen.

The military quality assessment has set up a "weathervane" of leading and training troops for combat readiness for the company and battalion commanders. In the recent live-ammunition firing examination participated by all the organic companies of the combined corps, two responsible officers of the 2nd Company, 1st Battalion of a regiment, which had not made the list of advance units in military training for years, were rated as "sharpshooters" with their excellent scores, and their company also won the first place in the examination.
