Joint exercise under ADMM-Plus mechanism concludes

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 21 (ChinaMil) -- The Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Relief & Military Medicine Joint Exercise under the mechanism of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) concluded successfully on June 20, 2013 in Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of the State of Brunei Darussalam. The first joint exercise of this kind held by the mechanism drew in the participation of 18 member countries, including the 10 ASEAN countries, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Australia, New Zealand, India, Russia and the United States.

Under the guidance and coordination of the exercise directing department and the Multi-national Operation Coordination Center, the troop units of the participating countries jointly conducted operations such as personnel search and rescue, medical treatment, road and bridge repairs, distribution of materials, epidemic prevention and others at 09:00 in different exercise locations .

The participating troops from China participated in each major subject of the exercise. Among them, the Chinese engineering detachment worked with engineers from New Zealand and Brunei to complete the construction of the heavy mechanized bridge and the walking bridge.

The medical detachments from China and Singapore formed a coalition of Level-II medical rescue team, while 5 Chinese engineers and 2 medical personnel were incorporated into the foreign participating troop units to carry out joint search and medical treatment. The performance of the participating personnel from China won high praise from the participating personnel of other countries.

Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, and the representatives from the member countries of the ADMM-Plus mechanism observed the exercise and visited the "Peace Ark" hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN).

At the end of his observation, Wang Guanzhong, head of the Chinese delegation to observe the joint exercise and deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, stated that the joint exercise was a great success and the participating troops of China showed the due quality that they are expected to have.
