TACLOBAN, December 9 (ChinaMil) -- The "Peace Ark" hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) made use of the remote medical consultation system to carry out remote consultation and treatment for 3 critically-ill patients from the typhoon-stricken area of the Philippines under the guidance of domestic medical experts on December 6.

The medical personnel on the "Peace Ark" hospital ship sent in the static images and text information of the three patients' electronic medical records, CT-scan and X-ray to the domestic medical experts in real time through the remote consultation system. After careful diagnosis, the experts identified the illness state of the patients and formulated treatment agendas.

According to the briefing made by Luo Jing, deputy director of the Remote Consultation Center under the General Hospital of the PLAN, the "Peace Ark" hospital ship carried the portable remote consultation system on this trip to the Philippines for humanitarian medical aid and set up a 3-tier long-range diagnosis system covering from the forward hospital through the hospital ship to the General Hospital of the PLAN, which raises the level of the medical services offered to the disaster-victimized people in the Philippines.

By 17:00 of December 5, the "Peace Ark" hospital ship has received and treated 1,692 sick and wounded patients in the disaster-hit areas since its arrival in the Philippines on November 24 to carry out the humanitarian medical aid. Many of the patients were critically-ill patients transferred from the public and private hospitals in Tacloban as well as from the medical teams of other countries.
