Toyota to recall RAV4 vehicles

On Aug. 3, Toyota Motor announced the recall of RAV4 vehicles in China, the United States and Canada due to a problem with the rear suspension arm.

The recall resulted from a problem in the after-sales service of some dealerships in North America and is a special case never met before. Although the case did not appear in China, Toyota Motor decided to have a recall in China in order to reassure the customers.

Specific information is as follows:

A total of 160,784 RAV4s produced by Toyota Motor will be recalled as of Sept. 3, 2012. The recall involves 13,474 imported RAV4s produced from July 21, 2005 to Nov. 28, 2008 and 147,310 domestic RAV4s produced by Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor (TFTM) between Jun. 2, 2009 and Oct. 31, 2010.

Toyota Motor has entrusted the FAW Toyota Motor Sales (FTMS) Co., Ltd. to inform the car owners in a letter. Meanwhile, the dealers will inform the car owners by phone and short message. The owners can send their cars to nearby sales stores of FTMS to fix.

In addition, the repair work will also be free to the owners who use an overseas model due to special reasons, but the model is confirmed to be included in the recall.

A user advisory service will also be carried out in the recall. Users who have questions can call Toyota Customer Service Center toll-free 800-810-1210 or 400-810-1210.
