Located in Dali, southwestern China's Yunnan province, Erhai Lake, the largest highland lake next to Dianchi Lake, is one of the seven biggest fresh water lakes in China. Its name means 'sea shaped like an ear' in Chinese, which implies that the lake is ear shaped and as large as a sea. It is about 43 km long and has a maximum width of 9 km, covering an area of some 250 square kilometers.
