BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority on Monday forecast that rainstorms will fall in south China, and temperatures will drop sharply in northeastern regions due to a cold front.

Heavy rain and storms are likely to hit regions along the Yellow, Huaihe and Yangtze rivers, the northern part of south China, western and southern parts of Yunnan Province and the southern part of northeast China over the next 24 hours, with some areas seeing thunderstorms, the National Meteorological Center said.

From Monday to Wednesday, Hainan and Guangdong provinces will also experience heavy rain and rainstorms, the center said.

Meanwhile, cold air in northeast China will bring gales and cause temperatures to drop by up to 8 degrees Celsius in the region's central-eastern part, it added.
