MENGNIU, one of China's largest dairy makers, confirmed yesterday that one of its sales managers and his accomplice have been arrested for altering production dates on thousands of cartons of milk.

Wang Sunfu, a Mengniu sales manager in Yiwu, a city in eastern Zhejiang Province, and his accomplice Zhao Baofeng bought 3,000 cartons of milk from the company in early May at half price as they were near the expiration date.

Wang then hired people to change the production date on this batch of milk and sold each carton at the normal price in the cities of Yiwu, Jinhua and Pujiang, Beijing Times reported today.

Inner Mongolia-based Mengniu said yesterday it would recall all the problem products and compensate customers according to food safety regulations, but did not elaborate, the newspaper said.
